International Conference was organized by MKD at Kottayam and Mavelikara as a part of Decennial Ecological Celebrations. Eco-resource persons training camp

Three day training for resource persons from different dioceses took place from 3rd to 5th September 2008 at Kottayam. The Rt. Rev. Thomas Samuel, The Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Marthoma Valiya Metropolitan, Rev. Dr. K. A. Abraham, Dr. M. P. Joseph Mr. G. Balachandran, Mr. Jayakumar and Dr. Mathew Koshy Punnackadu were the trainers. Rev. Dr. P.K Kuruvilla was the local convener. It was a new experience for the Clergy. As per the clergy, they are attending such an orientation for the first time.

Eco-Bible Study programme for the clergy and the Church workers of the Diocese was organized by the Diocesan Ecological committee on 5th September 2005 at the CSI Retreat Centre, Kottayam. The Rt. Rev. Thomas Samuel, Bishop of the Diocese, Rev. Prakash K George, Rev. Oommen Varkey and Rev. Dr. R. C. Thomas (all the three from Marthoma Theological Seminary)led the Bible study programme. Rev. Eco Camp - 2004

A three day deliberation on ‘Christian response to Ecological Issues’, which gave good insight and vision for the participants, was conducted from 21st to 23rd October 2004 at Amos Centre, Adichira near Kottayam. The camp was organized with the cooperation of Joint Ecological Commission. Papers on the following topic were presented by Rt. Rev. Dr. Issac Mar Philexenos(President of Kerala Council of Churches), Rt. Rev. Dr. Sam Mathew (CSI), Rt. Rev. Geevarughese Mar Osthathiose Metropolitan(Orthodox Church), Mr. Abraham Poovathany, Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan(Orthodox Church), Dr. B. Ekbal(former Vice Chancellor of Kerala University), Dr. John Mathai(KSSP), Rev. Varghese Kattuparambil(Catholic Church), Prof. Philip N Thomas (KCC) presented papers.

Ecological Sunday

The Rt. Rev. Thomas Samuel, Bishop of the Diocese planted a sapling on the Church campus on 6th June 2004 at Pampady as a mark of the Environmental Day Celebrations 2005. All the Churches in Madhya Kerala Diocese celebrated 6th June as Ecological Sunday. Eco sermon, special services, meetings were conducted in all the churches. A sample Eco sermon was prepared and distributed all over the diocese. All the parishes were able to involve in more programmes in relation to environment as the Environmental Day happened to be a Sunday.

Environmental Rally

An Environmental Rally was conducted by the Diocesan Ecological Committee from 24th to 26th May 2004 to proliferate the importance of rain water harvesting in which the rally visited the different parishes of the Madhya Kerala Diocese and circulated leaflets which spread the significance of rain water harvesting. The rally was well esteemed as it was able to raise an environmental awareness among the Diocesan members and the public.
